Day 9... Rome Part 2

After checking into our Rome hotel and a quick change, we were back on the bus to head out for a night in The Eternal City.

We went on a walking tour that took us through the streets and to some well known Roman landmarks. However, even if we hadn't seen those things, we were still amazed by the beauty and the history of the city. First, we made our way to the Spanish Steps and the Pantheon.

The Pantheon

Everywhere you looked there was an old building, old church or fountain. However, none of the fountains were as famous as the Trevi Fountain. It was something I had been looking forward to seeing. Whenever I had seen in it movies or on TV, it has always been this romantic, quiet scene. Unfortunately, in real life that isn't the case. We were AMAZED at the crowd. There were tons and tons of people. I was determined to get down to the fountain and throw the traditional coins, so we had to squeeze our way through.

There are several variations of the legend regarding the meaning of the coins you throw into Trevi. We chose to go with Bogi's version... 1 coin meant that you wanted to come to Rome someday. 2 coins meant you wanted love in your life forever... guess how many we threw in?

It is said that there are close to 3,000 Euros thrown in every day. The city has made good use of the money, using it towards a food market for Rome's needy.

After we had walked more than we could in one night, we made our way to a quaint restaurant for dinner. We shared a table with our friends Neil and Stephanie and as we ate dinner, we were entertained by a guitarist and flutist. The were very comical and the guitarist thought he was quite the Casanova. Every time I took a picture of them, they would pose!

Then Bogi was up to her tricks again... suddenly they were singing to us!! They gave us a bottle of champagne and dessert to share and me a rose! It was quite a surprise and a very nice ending to a nice day!
