We were up early and on the road! Our final destination would be Rome, but we would make a couple of interesting stops along the way...
Our first "comfort stop" happened to be in the Umbria region of Italy that our Tour Director, Bogi knew well. She actually lived with a family in the area for an entire summer in effort to perfect her Italian. So, she knew of this little sandwich stop that specialized in these awesome sandwiches that weren't even on their menu. The were called "Padina Blognesa" and if you were Brad, you would ask for it with no "Ricola" or "Rocket" (greens).
Now by this time I had already really taken to the Italian language. Maybe its the little Spanish I still understand, but I found it easy to learn phrases and enjoyed trying to use them whenever possible! So, I ordered our lunch at the counter and even helped other passengers. It was quite fun! And the sandwiches were awesome! They were hot sandwiches made of flat bread, thin meat and goat cheese. So yummy!!
After lunch, we drove into Assisi. As the name suggested, this is home of the Basilica of Saint Francis Assisi. He is the Saint of animals and one of the patrons of Italy. The Basilica was way up at the top of a hill so it was quite a hike. You had to REALLY want to go to Mass! Once we got there, we saw the beauty of the building and its incredible view.
It is a working church and monastery so when we entered there was a Mass going on. Cameras weren't allowed but I wanted to remember the beautiful music and how it filled the building. So, I have a video of my feet! Enjoy...

We left Assisi and headed back to the bus for our drive into Rome for a busy night...
