We interrupt this blog...

...to bring you a weather update. Well, sort of. :o)

We had some excitement in Leander last night... hail. Big time. We had been told to expect some "possibly severe" storms yesterday and in true Texas style, no one knew how bad it would be until it arrived.

Fortunately, I was already home when the storm hit. I was watching the news and they were telling people in the Spicewood area to begin "tornado precautions". Um, Spicewood is where my office is!! I text messaged a co-workers to check on them and she told me they had left early to try and beat the storm- thank goodness! As I watched the storm develop, it became clear to me that even with that head start, if I had been making the drive, I would have been in the path of the storm for my entire 1 hour dive... it would have been VERY dangerous.

Jason wasn't as lucky- he was leaving work just as the storm came our way- in fact, he was driving right into it!!! He truck is too large to have a permanent place in our garage. However, I cleared out enough room so that Jason could get the front half of his truck in. The bed is lined and wouldn't get much damage- we were more worried about the hood and windows! At this point, we just had lots of wind and rain. I called Jason to see how far he was and he was about 5 - 8 minutes away from home. Well, then the sky opened and the rain turned to hail and a lot of it!!

I stood in the garage watching and hoping that every vehicle I heard was Jason's. It took him a while, but he made it... he came flying around the corner and pulled into the garage. Thankfully he didn't have any damage.

The storm was crazy! I have never seen so much hail. It honestly looked like snow!!! We took several pictures...
Cheyenne was worried about me being on the front porch taking pictures...

Our hail was in mass quantities but according to reports, we missed the larger-sized hail. Just barely. Several areas around us reported golf ball and tennis ball sized hail. There were lots of house and car windows busted out. We were very, very lucky.

My favorite Meteorologist, Jim Spencer, said that they have nicknamed a region in Central Texas, "Hail Alley". He drew lines around that area on the map... wouldn't you know it- Leander is right in there!! Great... :o) However, in true Texas-style, the sky was blue and bright with the sun less than 15 minutes after the storm passed. You would never known the craziness that had just occurred!

We will now return you to your regularly scheduled Blog reading... well, that is after I have recovered some. Not from the storm... from the wonderful case of Bronchitis that I have! That was why I was home already when the storm came through because I felt so bad I work, I came home early. After going to the doctor this morning, I have been given lots of drugs, orders to rest and not return to work until Monday. They were fine with that since the doctor said that since I have a fever- I am very likely contagious. Yay!

The Chicago entries will continue soon...
