Day 4: Sylvia, Space & 'Skins...

Okay... okay... I am WAY behind on blogging. It has been over a month since our return from the anniversary trip. What can I say? Life got in the way. So, on we go!!

After our exhausting day at Busch Gardens and late night arrival at Brad's Uncle and Aunt's house, we decided we would slow things down a bit and stick close to home the next day. First on the agenda was lunch! A co-worker (and friend) of mine lived in the area so we made plans to meet up. Although Sylvia and I work together a lot and often talk at least once a day, we never actually get to SEE one another!! Since she lived one town over from the Hughes, we took the opportunity to meet up and she got to meet Brad.

We met Sylvia at a very interesting places called Clyde's Willow Creek Farm. This very interesting and HUGE restaurant was so unique! It is comprise of 4 different buildings - 2 houses, a barn and a tavern - all from the late 1700's to late 1800's. Together they form this massive place that includes seven dining rooms, four bars and a beautiful terrace. It is was so interesting that after we ordered our food, Sylvia took us on a tour! It is filled with "museum-quality" art work, historic artifacts and 18th century horse-drawn carriages. Most of the carriages were suspended from the ceiling above us as we ate!! We didn't get any pictures, but their website has some. Click here.

The food was phenomenal and the company just as great. We enjoyed our visit and stopped for a quick picture on our way out.

After we said our goodbyes, we headed to the only Smithsonian Museum we would see during our trip, the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center aka National Air & Space Museum. This is an extension of the main museum located in downtown DC.

The Observation Tower

This location is unique because it is right by Dulles Airport so the views from the observation tower include the flight lines.

After checking out the Tower, we saw a movie at the IMAX Theater called Fighter Pilot: Operation Red Flag. Exploring the life of a fighter jet pilot, truly was an "IMAX experience"! After the movie we headed to the "Aviation Hangar" to see all of the planes!

Our pictures just do do justice in regards to how big this place is. Keep in mind these are all full-sized, real planes.

Yes- that is the Concourse!!

Some little known facts about me... as a 6th Grader, I was a member of the Young Astronauts. I even went to NASA's Space Camp at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Birmingham, Alabama. Graduated at "Co-Pilot" on my crew (2nd in command). That's right... Co-Pilot Amy Dale reporting for duty!! :o) He, he, he... I tell you this to understand that when we entered the "Space Hangar" portion of the museum, I felt like a kid again!!

The Shuttle Enterprise has since been replaced by the Discovery

After we explored, we headed back to our home base for the rest of the week - Brad's Uncle Bob and Aunt Cindy's house. I had met them at our wedding but it was nice to have some real visiting time. We enjoyed a nice dinner prepared by Cindy and then we took an outing SPECIFICALLY for Brad. I emphasize this because the Cowboy fan in me keeps me from ever being caught dead in a place like this. I did it for the love of my Redskins fan husband. I swear that while we were in there, my throat began swelling shut and I started to break out in hives...

After Brad purchased a few souvenirs, we got out of there before I died. After washing my hands of that place, I called it an early night. We had a VERY early wake up call the next morning!
